A native of Tucson, Arizona, Local criminal defense lawyer Houston Jose Ceja has devoted his career to the practice of criminal law. He began his career in 2008 as a prosecutor and was quickly promoted to the felony division, where he specialized in the prosecution of drug offenses, gangs and violent crimes. As a prosecutor, Mr. Ceja worked closely with State and Federal law enforcement agencies on hundreds of drug trafficking cases and gained vast trial experience and expertise in key areas such as search and seizure law.
Since 2010, Mr. Ceja has worked at one of Texas’ top criminal defense firms as an associate, handling a wide-array of cases, from DWIs, to sex offenses and murders. He has first-chaired over 50 felony and misdemeanor jury trials. He has excelled as a criminal defense attorney and obtained countless acquittals, dismissals, and “no-bills” for his clients. Mr. Ceja has earned a perfect “10.0” rating by Avvo and is recognized as a “Top 100 Trial Lawyer” by the National Trial Lawyers Association.
Mr. Ceja is also an active member of several professional organizations, including the Harris County Criminal Lawyers Association (HCCLA) and the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association (TCDLA). He has undergone extensive specialized training in virtually all areas of criminal defense including gas chromatography (blood testing), computer forensics, and the administration of standardized field sobriety testing.
Mr. Ceja earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Arizona, James E. Rogers College of Law. While in law school, Mr. Ceja clerked for the Hon. Bernardo Velasco (United States District Court – Southern District of Arizona), as well as the legal department of the Tucson Police Department. Since moving to Texas, Mr. Ceja completed the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association Trial College in Huntsville, Texas and the Trial Lawyers College Psychodrama Program in Round Top, Texas, sponsored by The Criminal Defense Lawyer’s Project and Gerry Spence’s Trial Lawyer’s College.
Mr. Ceja is fluent in Spanish. In his spare time, Mr. Ceja enjoys basketball, home-brewing and travelling.
